MERCURY [break] WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER MEAN TO THEIR CIVILIZATION? [break] Though trading is something that is often seen as something very human, it were actually the gods who made the most important trades in history. Mercury, the God of Commerce was responsible for quite a few of these trades. For example, he was the one who gave Apollo his iconic lyre, as well as the first flute. Because of this, Mercury is now known as the God of Commerce. Traders and businessmen far and wide pray to Mercury, and sacrifice a part of their trades to him, just so they can stay at the top of their game. But trading isn't the only thing Mercury is specialised in. Being one of the fastest gods in the Between, he also is the god of travelers. No matter if people travel by foot or by cart, if they want to be sure to make it to their destination, humans should make sure to keep Mercury on their right side. [break][break] WHAT LEGENDS REVOLVE AROUND YOUR CHARACTER? [break] Mercury often appears for a short time in legends of all kinds, in which he offers the heroes of those legends some quick help. But one of the most interesting legends around him was the one in which he was the hero. In this legend, Hermes wanted to save Jupiter's lover, Io, from the hundred-eyed giant Argus. Where this would seem like an impossible task to others, it was mere childs play to Mercury, who used his flute to make the giant fall asleep. As soon as his hundred eyes closed, Mercury cut off his head, and brought Io back to safety. [break][break] HOW WAS YOUR CHARACTER BORN/CREATED? [break] Mercury was born the morning right after Jupiter and the nymph Maia slept together. Immediately when Maia fell asleep after that, Mercury stole a number of his brother Apollo's cows, hid them in a cave, and returned to his mother before she had woken up. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD LOOK LIKE? [break] Mercury is relatively young for a god, and that's clearly visible in his appearance. His brown hair is a bit too long for Roman standards, his eyes are filled with playfulness, and there's not a single wrinkle to be found in his skin. Some gods might even call him puny, but what he misses in size, he makes up for in speed. Because of how fast he is, Mercury usually dresses himself in comfortable clothes whenever he's not discussing business with anyone. Besides this, the most interesting part of his clothes are his shoes. These winged objects can take the shape of any shoe, depending on who wears them, and allow anyone who wears them to run on air as if it was a solid surface. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD ACT LIKE? [break] Mercury is fast, and because of this, he also talks, walks, and acts fast. Sometimes the god has trouble keeping himself from going too fast, and this results in him talking a lot slower than usual, or walking back to people to make sure they're walking behind him. Some gods see this attitude as condescending, while he is actually trying his best to go slow enough for people to follow him. But other days, Mercury is in fact condescending towards others. After all, since nearly everyone is slower than he is, he just feels out of place every now and then. But Mercury isn't all happiness, care, and speed. He's also quite the kleptomaniac. The first thing he ever did was steal his brother's cattle, and since then he hasn't learned one bit. The god often just steals things from the other gods, only to offer to make a trade for it as soon as the gods notice what he stole. And this kind of childish attitude is also the cause of his love for pranks. Mercury just feels superior due to his tremendous speed, and because of this, he enjoys showing this speed off to his fellow gods. Some gods might even go as far as to call him a jerk and a bully. [break][break] WHAT ARE THEIR PRIMARY DUTIES TO THEIR PEOPLE? [break] On the matter of commerce, Mercury is the one who holds the strings. He is the one who makes sure goods arrive at their destination, and therefore he is the one who makes sure traders gain their profit. People who pray to the God of Commerce are sure to become rich from trading rather quickly. As for traveling, Mercury makes sure his followers don't get any trouble while traveling. [break][break] WHAT POWERS DOES YOUR CHARACTER POSSESS? [break] At power level 1: Mercury can move faster than the speed of sound, and interact with Earth. He is invisible to all humans and can only talk to his followers. [break][break] At power level 2: Mercury can appear to his followers, and cause their luck in commerce and travel to go up. [break][break] At power level 3: Mercury can appear to all people, and make minor changes in the European economy. [break][break] At power level 4: Mercury can make large changes in the global economy and travels. [break][break] At power level 5: Mercury can make people go bankrupt in days, and cause train, car, and plane crashes. [break][break] HAVE YOU READ ALL THE SITE RULES? [break] Yeah, I have. [break][break] DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE STAFF? [break] I can't manage to get in the chat box. It just tells me to go to the profile section of the site. How do I fix this? Also, are Roman gods and Greek gods the same on The Risk, with just different names? Or are they entirely different? [break][break] DO YOU PLAY ANY OTHER CHARACTERS ON TR? [break] Nope. This is my first one. |
