PERSEPHONE [break] WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER MEAN TO THEIR CIVILIZATION? Persephone the Greek Goddess of springtime and youth is one of the lower Goddesses of the Pantheon; less important than her mother Demeter she has few temples and is mostly followed by select cults. The tales surrounding Persephone however are important to the Ancient Greek calendar. They use her abduction and subsequent return to her mother and later her husband as an explanation to the changing seasons. [break][break] WHAT LEGENDS REVOLVE AROUND YOUR CHARACTER? [break] The most famous legend which surrounds Persephone is her abduction and subsequent marriage to Hades. Persephone was picking flowers with a group of nymphs when Hades (a god who had become enamored with the young Persephone) abducted her, during the period she spent in the underworld plant life refused to grow (due to Demeter's grief) and the mortal realm suffered. She was finally released but because she consumed six pomergranate seeds she was bound by curse, to return to the under world for six months each year. This legend was used by the ancient greek civilization to explain the changing of the seasons. [break][break] HOW WAS YOUR CHARACTER BORN/CREATED? [break] Persephone is the daughter of Demeter the goddess of the harvest, and Zeus. Zeus did not care for either Demeter or Persephone and sent them away thus Demeter raised Persephone alone. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD LOOK LIKE? [break] With a doe like eyes and full pink lips Persephone has a youthful face and appears much younger than she actually is. With dimpled cheeks and pale skin she’s a fresh faced maiden though thanks to her time in the underworld her fair skin lacks the natural glow the sunshine would bring her and sometimes she can appear gaunt and ghostly. Her hair falls into long brown curls accompanied by dainty flowers the young goddess has entwined within her dark locks. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD ACT LIKE? [break] Typically introverted Persephone would once spend hours alone enjoying her own company or in the company of nature. She’s a sweet natured goddess, tender though terribly passive she was considerate and dedicated to her role as a spring goddess. Though once naïve to the ways of the world (thanks to how she was raised) Persephone has grown wise thanks to time spent in the underworld somewhat spiritual and in some cases mystical Persephone has grown from the meek child into a Queen. She’s strong willed, stubborn (she does not submit willingly) and while she isn’t overtly vocal about her thoughts nor is she the strongest figure in Pantheon she can be quite opinionated, and her natural compassion (to a just cause) makes up for her lack of physical power as does her quick wit. She loves dearly and can be quite possessive over those she cares about (she turned the nymph Minthe into a plant for attempting to seduce her husband). [break][break] WHAT ARE THEIR PRIMARY DUTIES TO THEIR PEOPLE? [break] Persephone has power over the season of spring, the arrival of which signifies the end of winter to her people, it was her duty to make the flowers bloom and make the leaves return to the tree's. Of course being Queen of the Underworld many would pray to her as she was considered a more benevolent figure compared to her husband. Persephone also has an affinity with youth and is sometimes worshipped as a goddess asociated with youthfulness and innocence. [break][break] WHAT POWERS DOES YOUR CHARACTER POSSESS? [break] While possessing the typical powers of a god, Persephone has the ability to control flower and spring time plant life. She can manipulate flowers, cause them to bloom and has some affinity with children and youth. As the Queen of the underworld Persephone has the rare ability to travel between the free realms, earth, the underworld and mount Olympus. [break][break] HAVE YOU READ ALL THE SITE RULES?
