APOLLO [break] WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER MEAN TO THEIR CIVILIZATION? [break] Apollo is one of the great Olympian Gods of the Greek Pantheon; as a son of Zeus and twin brother to the Goddess Artemis, he is widely regarded by humans in Greek society. He is worshiped on Delos his birthplace, along with his twin sister, while many other Greeks travel to his famous temple at Dalphi where the Oracle of Delphi is a speaker for his prophecies. Many also pray to him in time of need or for inspiration, as he is the God of music, poetry, art, medicine, plague, archery, truth and order--considered one of the most multi-talented Gods on Mt Olympus. [break][break] WHAT LEGENDS REVOLVE AROUND YOUR CHARACTER? [break] Many legends are passed of Apollo's existence; his birth on the island Delos to Leto and Zeus is widely accepted in all corners of Greek civilization. The legend of Apollo slaying the giant snake Python at Pytho with his silver bow is his most popular legend and is the location of his oracle temple which he renamed Delphi angering Gaia. Apollo's on-going feud with Eros is another popular legend, He insulted the God of Love after catching Eros playing with his silver bow and arrow. [break] Apollo was born to the Titan Leto and the God Zeus on the island of Delos. This angered Hera and she forbade Leto from giving birth on any island or mainland in protest of Zeus' unfaithfulness. But Delos gave sanctuary to Leto and with the help of all the Goddesses to convince Hera, she first gave birth to the Goddess Artemis and then the God Apollo.
