ZEUS [break] WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER MEAN TO THEIR CIVILIZATION? [break] Zeus is the king of the gods. He is one of the most important figures in Greek Civilization, and this revolves around his power across the heavens, as well as his position. Men and women fear and worship him, while his fellow gods and goddes look to him for leadership. He served as the pillar of grand justice, and the friend of kings and rulers. As the father of men, he took a paternal interest in the actions and well-being of mortals. He watched over them with tender solicitude, rewarding truth, charity, and fairness, while severely punishing perjury and cruelty. Even the poorest and most forlorn wanderer could find a powerful advocate in Zeus, for he, as a wise and merciful paternal figure, demanded that the wealthy inhabitants of the earth be attentive to the needs of their less fortunate fellow citizens. [break][break] WHAT LEGENDS REVOLVE AROUND YOUR CHARACTER? [break] Cronus sired several children by Rhea: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon, but swallowed them all as soon as they were born, since he had learned from Gaia and Uranus that he was destined to be overcome by his own son as he had overthrown his own father, an oracle that Rhea heard and wished to avert. When Zeus was about to be born, Rhea sought Gaia to devise a plan to save him, so that Cronus would get his retribution for his acts against Uranus and his own children. Rhea gave birth to Zeus in Crete, handing Cronus a rock wrapped in swaddling clothes, which he promptly swallowed. Zeus grew up to be the man that was to topple the Titan's rule. And he did, with the help of his brothers and sisters, whom he had forced his father to regurgitate. Imprisoning them in Tartarus, Zeus then took hold of ruling mankind, drawing lots with his brothers, and securing his rule of the heavens. From then on, he fought the Giants and Typhon. With help from his siblings and fellow gods and goddesses, they were able to secure the heavens from the enemy's grasps. Event thought married to his sister, Hera, he still had more than a handful of extramarital affairs. From Dione, to Leto, Zeus could not stop himself from cultivating his seed in every woman he sees as beautiful. Of course, his wife Hera would not be so kind, and most times punish either the mother, the child, or both. [break][break] HOW WAS YOUR CHARACTER BORN/CREATED? [break] Zeus was the youngest son of Kronos and Rhea, the Titans. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD LOOK LIKE? [break] Zeus is often depicted as having longish hair. Most times it is either blonde, or gray. He has a very chiseled face, and sharp eyes that seemed to peer into your very soul. His body frame is slightly large, muscular and very broad. He is tall in stature, and walks in a stride that seemed to command power. [break][break] WHAT DOES YOUR GOD ACT LIKE? [break] Zeus is the very incarnate of man-child. He is very serious when the situation permits it, often even over thinking situations. He acts justly most times, and passes judgement in a very fair manner. He commands leadership and power among the gods and goddesses of Olympus. But outside of serious situations, he acts like a child. He is very amorous, and does not take a no from women he finds a liking to. He is very childish in a sense that he often abuses his power when he feels like it, even so much so that his brothers and sisters had to intervene and talk to him in a few occasions. In fact, he had almost lost his position as their King once when he had been trapped inside a net made by Hephaestus. [break][break] WHAT ARE THEIR PRIMARY DUTIES TO THEIR PEOPLE? [break] Zeus, as the king of gods and men, oversees everyone and everything. He does not micromanage per se, but he does keep a good overview of what has happened. He commands the sky, as well as a symbol of justice and law. Therefore, Zeus is often seen as the judgement bearer, where he rewards or curses those who have done good or bad. As the ruler of the state, he was the source of kingly power, the upholder of all institutions connected to the state, and the friend and patron of princes, whom he guarded and assisted with his advice and counsel. He was also the protector of the people, and watched over the welfare of the whole community. [break][break] WHAT POWERS DOES YOUR CHARACTER POSSESS? [break] Zeus has command of the skies. Thunder and lightning, he possesses one of the most powerful and frightening weapon known. He also can control the weather, and has a limited power in terms of the winds. Shape-shifting is also one of his more used powers, especially when he seduces women. Using his shield, the Aegis, Zeus could create all natural phenomena related to the air and the sky, such as storms, tempests, and intense darkness. At his command, mighty thunders would flash and lightnings would roll, wreaking havoc; or the skies would open to rejuvenate the earth with life-giving water.
